On August 20th, the live-action adaptation of the hit manga series "Work Cells" revealed an expanded cast including new cells and harmful bacteria and viruses that will challenge the body's defenses. The additions to the ensemble include Eita Kyogoku, Kyoko Fukada, Ryo Kakihara, Ai-no Kataoka, Makiko Ozawa, and Fukase from the band Sukima Switch.

The live-action "Work Cells" is helmed by director Eiji Takeuchi with screenplay by Yūichi Tokunaga and action direction by Takahito Ōmori (known for "Rurouni Kenshin" and "Yu Yu Hakusho"). Sōta Satō takes on the role of the White Blood Cell, while Mezu Noya plays the Red Blood Cell. Ai Arishima and Ryūji Abe portray a human father and daughter, with additional cast members such as Kōji Yamamoto, Yumi Nakaya, Wakana Matsumoto, and Maika Pugh as the Killer T Cell, NK Cell, Macrophage, and Platelet, respectively.

This cinematic adaptation draws inspiration from the original manga by Akane Shimizu, which also includes elements from the spin-off series "Work Cells BLACK." The story follows the 37 trillion cells within the human body as they tirelessly work around the clock to maintain health and well-being. Shimizu masterfully intertwines cellular knowledge into her narrative, transforming what could be mundane biological facts into engaging and plausible scenarios. With the addition of intense action sequences, the film promises to be an "edutainment" spectacle that educates and entertains in equal measure.

The live-action "Work Cells" is set to premiere in Japanese theaters on December 13th.
