As per an exclusive report from Deadline, the talented Tom Blyth and Emily Bald are set to star in Brett Haley's latest directorial venture, “A Summer Encounter,” based on Emily Henry's best-selling novel “The People You Meet on Vacation.” The book was published by Berkley in 2021 and swiftly ascended to the top spot on The New York Times Best Seller list, where it remained for over a year.

The film centers around the contrasting lives of Poppy (played by Emily Bald), a free-spirited adventurer, and Alex (portrayed by Tom Blyth), a rule-abiding homebody. Despite their stark differences—she with her insatiable wanderlust, he with his penchant for curling up with a good book—they became unlikely best friends after sharing a ride home from college years ago. They live worlds apart for most of the year—she in bustling New York City, he in their quaint hometown—but every summer for a decade, they have come together for a cherished vacation. However, two years ago, the delicate balance of their friendship was tested when they began to question whether they might actually be perfect for each other romantically.

“A Summer Encounter” is a joint production between Sony Pictures and Netflix, though no official release date has been announced yet.
